HAMCUS x ADIDAS "EXILES" - ART DIRECTION, LOOK DEV, SKY REPLACEMENT AND SET EXTENSION USING UNREAL ENGINE
Project Description: Art Direction and Design for Sci-Fi Short Film Exiles
For the short sci-fi film Exiles, directed by Dutch filmmaker Thomas Kamphuis for Hamcus x Adidas, I provided art direction and design for the environments, look development, and set extensions. The goal was to create a barren, post-apocalyptic landscape that evoked a harsh, desolate world.
Using Unreal Engine’s atmosphere editor, I designed cloudy, dust-filled skies to emphasize the dry, unforgiving environment. Layered mountain ridges and desert vistas were created with Quixel's Megascans, seamlessly blending with live-action footage. Particular attention was given to the reflections of the digital environment in building facades, as well as the integration of vegetation, sand, and rocks to ensure a cohesive and believable world.
As art director, I was involved in the design process of individual elements, ensured visual consistency, and collaborated on the compositing process. The final look was achieved through meticulous color grading, uniting live-action and digital components into a visually striking, futuristic, and atmospheric post-apocalyptic setting.
